In 1961, on my first visit to Napa Valley, I was unaware that a quiet revolution was beginning to emerge.

St. Helena was a small town of fewer than 1900, and there was little awareness of the vineyard as a source of wine.

A few new 1960s Pioneers, including Joe Heitz, Jack Davies, Peter Newton, Chuck Carpy, Donn Chappellet,  and Carl Doumani, began arriving in Napa Valley, replacing prunes, walnuts,  and cattle with vineyards.

I had the privilege of working with all of them.
